About the Journal

The Economic and Social Review is Ireland's leading journal for economics and applied social science. It is listed in the Academic Journal Guide and ranks among the top 15% of economics journals according to RePEc/IDEAS.

Aims & Scope

Founded in 1969, the Economic and Social Review is the journal of The Economic and Social Studies (ESS) Council and invites high quality submissions with a strong policy focus in all fields of economics, sociology, political science and other relevant disciplines. Contributions that are of value to academics, students, policy makers and others interested in Irish, UK or European economic and social policy are welcome. While preference may be given to original empirical based research, qualitative studies and review papers are also welcome.

In addition to general research articles, The ESR incorporates a dedicated ‘Policy Articles’ section, featuring applied articles that engage directly with current economic and social policy issues with direct relevance for Ireland. These articles are subject to the same refereeing process as our academic articles. Authors wishing to submit to the policy section can indicate “Policy Article” as the article type in the submission portal. In some circumstances, the Editor may suggest that a general article is more suited to the policy section.

Suggestions to the Editor for specially themed policy sections are welcome. The journal is fully open access with no submission or publication fees.
